Important Car Seat Features
Thursday, January 7, 2010Finding the perfect car seat for your little one takes time. It shouldn’t be done overnight but instead should be given a lot of thought. Find a great brand, a seat with excellent reviews, and one with all the important features.
Safety is important
Safety for a baby seat is imperative. It is the whole reason that one searches for a car seat in the first place. There are governmental regulations in place to serve as guidelines for buying and using a baby car seat. A good baby car seat will usually have five different areas to belt the child in. There will be one on each shoulder, two on each waist and one more between the legs. This is imperative, as if anything were to ever happen, the child would be adequately strapped in.
Design and ease
Ease is important for many travelers with babies. An easy child seat will have easy access for the seatbelt. At the base of the car seat, there will be an open hole to put the seatbelt through and provide a strong foundation. Another feature of seats can be an umbrella feature. This can provide shade if you decide to take the child seat and put it into a stroller, on a shopping cart or just carry it. Another thing to consider is the ease of cleaning the seat. Children are by no means clean all the time. Some decide to use a blanket between the child and the seat, others opt to buy one that uses plastic as a cushion, and others vie for buying a cotton cushion and cleaning it when it gets messy. Either way, consider the ease of cleaning when buying.
Comfort and belts
With the whole reason of buying a seat being safety, it is also important to consider comfort ability for the child. Although the child cannot describe the comfort ability, it is the parents or the care takers responsibility to make sure that the belts are not too tight, that the seat is durable, and that the seat is adequately fastened in place when preparing to drive. A good rule of thumb is to place two fingers beneath the seatbelt between the child and the belt. This will prove that the belt is not too tight and will not cut off circulation.
